What is private international law ?

Le droit international privé est l’ensemble des règles applicables à une situation contenant des éléments d’extranéité (personnes de nationalité étrangère, résidence à l’étranger, biens à l’étranger).

Face à une clientèle internationale, le notaire sera vigilant afin d’appliquer la bonne loi à la situation en cause, et prévenir les éventuelles conséquences fiscales (risque de double imposition).

Private international law is the set of rules applicable to a situation involving foreign elements (foreign nationals, residence abroad, assets abroad).

When dealing with an international clientele, the notary will take care to apply the appropriate law to the situation at hand, and prevent any potential tax consequences (such as the risk of double taxation).
